Environmental remediation requires materials that meet demanding performance standards without introducing additional environmental or occupational health concerns. Renegade Plastics offers a polypropylene-based technical textile that is increasingly being used in environmental cleanup applications due to its durability, chemical resistance, and advantageous material health profile.
Recently, Central Engineering Services selected Renegade tarps for use in a project involving soil collection for PFAS analysis. The project required logging and collecting soil core samples for lab testing of PFAS. All sampling tools had to be free of PFAS so as to not interfere with the integrity of sample collection or risk introducing PFAS contamination from the tools themselves. Because Renegade tarps contain no intentionally added PFAS and return non-detect total fluorine levels in independent lab testing, they were an ideal material for the job. Their use helped ensure clean, reliable data while maintaining safe practices in the field.
Engineered for Environmental Engineering Applications
Renegade tarps are ideal for deployment in a variety of site assessment & investigation and remediation & cleanup scenarios, including:
- Capping of contaminated soils and waste
Our fabrics can serve as physical barriers to prevent wind-blown dispersion, leaching, or water infiltration in contaminated soil stockpiles and landfills. - Stormwater and runoff control
In construction and remediation sites, our materials could be used to redirect surface water, isolate contaminated runoff, or serve as temporary liners in sediment basins. - Emergency spill response
Renegade tarps are also excellent for rapid deployment in chemical spills or hazardous material containment, where their chemical resistance, impermeability, and mechanical strength are essential.
Material Science That Supports Sustainability
Our tarps are made from a polypropylene-based plastic-coated textile that does not contain vinyl chloride, phthalates, or plasticizers. Our materials are also free of lead and contain no intentionally added PFAS, with total fluorine testing returning non-detect levels. This positions Renegade products as a safer alternative to traditional PVC-based geomembranes, which are associated with the release of hazardous substances during use and disposal.
Renegade materials are also NSF/ANSI 61 certified for potable water contact, including applications with volumes as low as 10 gallons. This makes them viable for use in water storage, spill containment berms, and sampling containment setups where water quality assurance is critical.

Designed for Circularity
Renegade tarps are able to be recycled at designated facilities into high-quality post-consumer polypropylene resin. Their durability allows for multiple reuse cycles prior to end-of-life recycling, making them suitable for long-term or repeated deployment in remediation projects.
Unlike traditional vinyl tarps that frequently end up in landfills due to contamination concerns or limited recyclability, Renegade tarps contribute to a more circular materials economy by minimizing both primary input and end-of-life waste.
Technical Specifications Available
Renegade Plastics offers a range of tarp weights, coatings, and scrim reinforcements engineered to meet specific application needs. For environmental and regulatory professionals, full material safety data, testing results, and technical performance specifications are available upon request.
