Recycling Renegade

It’s true, Renegade fabrics are recyclable. We understand that you might be skeptical, there’s a lot of misinformation out there about plastics recycling. Some of it is true, some of it is not. But Renegade cares about the environment, so we want to make sure that our fabrics are recycled appropriately, and that our customers have the information that they need to recycle the fabrics that they buy from us.

Why Can Renegade Fabrics Be Recycled?

Why Can Renegade Fabrics Be Recycled?

Renegade’s fabrics are made with polypropylene. While polypropylene (PP) is not as widely recycled as HDPE (milk jugs) or PET (clear plastic water bottles), it is accepted by more than 60% of US plastic recyclers, and new technologies that improve the ability to recycle PP are becoming more widespread.
Who Can Recycle Renegade Fabrics?

Who Can Recycle Renegade Fabrics?

Unlike most fabrics, which must be recycled with specialized textile equipment, Renegade fabrics were designed to be recycled by most plastic recycling facilities. This means that almost all plastic recyclers that accept polypropylene can recycle our fabrics.
What’s the Catch?

What’s the Catch?

Yeah – you knew this was coming. The catch is that our fabrics look and feel just like PVC coated fabrics (aka vinyl fabrics), and those cannot be recycled by anyone. So unfortunately, you cannot just drop our fabrics in your curbside bin, they need to go to a Renegade partner recycler that has qualified Renegade fabrics. Fortunately, we’re here to help make that happen.

What Happens to Renegade Fabrics After They Get Recycled?

What Happens to Renegade Fabrics After They Get Recycled?

While the market for post-industrial and post-consumer recycled resins is volatile, demand is increasing. Most recyclers that have qualified our fabrics have customers interested in using the recycled resin. Some Renegade customers have their own internal recycling programs and have circular systems that use the recycled resin. We even use our own recycled resin to make the grommets used in our branded tarps, and we are diligently working to incorporate recycled content into our fabrics.
