At Renegade Plastics, we don’t just say our materials are tough—we make sure they prove it. Recently, we put samples of Reggie the Rhino-printed PPI-320 to the test with over 1,000 hours of accelerated weathering using ASTM G155. This test is like boot camp for materials: relentless UV exposure, simulated rainstorms, and temperature extremes designed to mimic years of outdoor punishment.
The verdict? Our samples didn’t just survive—they thrived.
What is ASTM G155?
For those unfamiliar, ASTM G155 is a rigorous test designed to replicate years of environmental wear and tear in a fraction of the time. Using xenon arc lamps to simulate sunlight, controlled water sprays for rain, and temperature cycles that push materials to their limits, it’s the ultimate durability challenge.
If your material can handle this test, it can handle anything the elements throw at it.
How Did Renegade Plastics Perform?
After over 1,000 hours of testing, the results speak volumes about the resilience of our materials:
- Print Quality: Colors stayed vibrant, graphics sharp, and details precise—proof that our printed samples are made to last.
- Cracking: None. Zero. Nada. Our fabrics stayed intact, showing no signs of cracking even under the harshest simulated conditions.
- Fabric Performance: The white fabric did show a negligible amount of graying that is hardly noticeable to the casual observer.
- Shrinkage: Compared to the control sample, the fabric shrank by approximately 1/4″. That’s a minor adjustment, considering the extreme conditions it endured, and it doesn’t compromise the fabric’s functionality or appearance.
But you don’t need to just take our word for it, check out the pictures from the testing in this blog post to see the results for yourself.
Why UV Resistance Matters
UV resistance isn’t just a fancy feature—it’s a necessity for industries where materials are constantly exposed to sunlight and environmental stressors. Here’s where Renegade Plastics shines:
- Marine Applications: From marine upholstery to dockside tarps, UV resistance ensures fabrics won’t fade, crack, or weaken under prolonged sun exposure and salty air.
- Automotive: Whether it’s car seat covers, dashboards, or convertible tops, durable UV-resistant materials maintain their appearance and performance even in hot, sun-drenched conditions.
- Agriculture: Greenhouse covers, tarps, and shade structures rely on UV resistance to protect crops and livestock, and maintain functionality over multiple growing seasons.
- Outdoor Recreation: Materials for snow sports, tents, awnings, and gear need to withstand constant exposure to sunlight without losing color or strength.
- Construction: Scaffolding covers, safety tarps, and protective barriers exposed to outdoor elements demand long-term durability and UV resistance.
These industries, and countless others, benefit from materials that don’t just look good but hold up in extreme conditions. Renegade Plastics is the trusted choice for products that need to perform under pressure—literally and figuratively.
Because Plastics Should Be Renegades, Too
Renegade Plastics isn’t about doing things the ordinary way. We’re about challenging the status quo and creating materials that don’t just meet expectations—they exceed them. Producing fabrics that can stand up to over 1000 hours of accelerated weather testing with no cracking, no fading, and only minimal shrinkage while avoiding harmful additives is another way we prove our commitment to excellence.
When you choose Renegade Plastics, you’re choosing materials that can take on the elements and come out stronger on the other side.
